Patriarchal Blessings are Your Personal 2025 Scriptures

One way to retype your blessing is ONE paragraph 
as a CHAPTER. Then ONE sentence as a VERSE.

Our Ward leadership has asked us to study our patriarchal blessings in 2025. This is a renewed opportunity to read with understanding hearts and minds what God's will for us is, as stated in this, our personal scripture.

Whether short or long, our blessing has some hidden insights to guide us during these last days before the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. It will help us be prepared. It was given for this very purpose: to guide us, give us joy and hope, to increase our faith and let us know our role in His latter-day work. We are His children and He knows us intimately. He can see around the corners and knows the beginning from the end. He is, after all, omniscient.

I have studied my own blessing diligently since 1999, using it to set annual goals and more importantly, to see how I'm measuring up in doing what Heavenly Father wants me to be doing. In 2012, I began this blog to help others gain insights into their own personal scripture. At that time blogs were blossoming everywhere on every topic. My efforts viewed through the lens of 25 years, seem to be a little repetitious and long, However, I still find new and exciting things in my own studies and just like in studying the Bible's Old and New Testament, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price, each reading draws me closer to the Spirit and revelation distills upon my soul.

Ever few days I will suggest a thought that may be helpful to you. Today's idea is to look for phrases or actual scriptures quoted by the patriarch who gave you this blessing. Ponder and ask yourself why did God want you to view this as especially "your" scripture.

If there is no phrases like that go to the very ending of your blessing and see what is so special about those last couple sentences.

Saturday He goes unto the Faithful in the Spiritworld

 Jesus Christ while his body rests in the sepulchre, goes unto the faithful in the spiritworld preaching the gospel and doctrine of the resurrection of mankind from the fall and from individual sins on condition of repentence.

Blessed Patriarch, Isaiah

 

Blessed Patriarch 

             This a poem to you, Isaiah,                

white haired, bent over your scroll,

weighed down with a vision’s burden.

Ancient prophet, whose life was in a palace,

yet servant of our King.

Your place was unique in time, chosen.

Our Father loved and trusted you.

As I read and ponder your words,

my world changes;

a polar shift occurs.

The mystery of your words

sift into spirit patterns of meaning,

the language of the Lord,

touching the center place of my soul.

Illumination bursts forth,

I know who I am now.

Chosen and set apart in the preexistence,

to write of these last days,

the songs of His heart for me. 

I can see more clearly

the face of my Counselor,

my God and my King.

The heavens unroll as a scroll

because of you,

Oh, blessed of patriarchs,

Great are the Words of Isaiah.

Ancestors Influence Us

 

Ancestors

They speak to us through wills,

And birth certificates, journals

And marriage licenses,

To tell us what they did and how they lived,

Of how they fought in wars and revolutions,

Or stayed at home and raised

Their crops of corn and children

 

As we search and find the documents

That tell of great events and small,

Our eyes of love clothe these words

On dry and dusty paper with living flesh.

On imagination’s stage they dart about

With the burning energy of youth,

Or limp along on tired legs

Of pioneers who near their journey’s end.

 

I knew you not, but now I know you.

Your blood is mine, your struggles gave me life.

Had you not been, I would not be.

And as I resurrect the past

Through microfilm, CD and book,

I only pray that some day one will say

Of me, I knew him not, but I am proud

To have his genes within, making me

A little bit like him.

Expect Miracles!

To honor our prophet, and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I quote him from his Oct 2022 talk entitled, "Overcome the World and Find Rest"

"....my dear brothers and sisters, so many wonderful things are ahead. In comng days, we will see the greatest manifestations of the Savior's power that the world has ever seen.

"Between now and the time He returns with 'power and great glory', He will bestow countless privileges, blessings and MIRACLES upon the faithful."

Journals Record Personal Miracles

President Nelson continued, "Let Him know through your prayers and your actions that you are serious about overcoming the world. Ask Him to enlighten your mind and send the help you need. Each day, record the thoughts that come to you as you pray; then follow through dilgently. Spend more time in the temple, and seek to understand how the temple teaches you to rise above this fallen world."

Why I Do Family History and Temple Work

It is in this talk that I found my patriarchal blessing's expression of my personal life mission explained.

He said, "Anytime we do anything that helps anyone -- on either side of the veil -- to make and keep their covenants with God, we are helping to gather Israel."

My Miracles Happen Quietly

As I focus on one individual in my family on FamilySearch who is dead, I find memories, photos and records or sources that mention them. My thoughts of them probably surprise them. They may have thought that their life was a hum drum plain vanilla one lived out in obscurity, but I am showing them by my love, focus and concern, that simply is not true. They matter. They matter to me and they matter to God. He knows them individually. 

More than likely, I promised them in the pre-existence that I would find them, and perform for them a work that they cannot do for themselves.

I was born 79 years ago into the very family lineage that would enable me to exercise my gifts and talents of solving mysteries, finding puzzle pieces, and the skills needed for researching, needed to identify each and every one. THE ONE IS IMPORTANT. Mine is a tree with messy roots, meaning many children, many with multiple marriages and all farmers. No one famous. No pioneer heritage. During the pandemic I added over 8,000 names.

 Now I quote President Nelson in his talk given April 2018 "Let Us All Press On"

"Our message to the world is simple and sincere: we invite all of God's children on both sides of the veil to come unto their Savior, receive the blessings of the holy temple, have enduring joy, and qualify for etrnal life."
