Reflections on Sickness and Statistics
The last entry in my 2019 Journal said that I was never going to write in it again! Well, congestive heart failure brought me to my knees the first week of December; then on the 28th my kidney's failed. Having spent all that time in and out of the hospital, it was my health that made me say "never."
After a 10 day stay in a skilled nursing facility, I repented and began again to write. I was alive after all, and had seen miracle after miracle showing God's hand in my life, but I hadn't recorded one of them. Alas, along with this kidney failure came the loss of recent memory cells in my aging brain.
No sooner had I made this resolution than there came a world-wide pandemic (Coronoviris19) and brought self-isolation, schools closing, panic buying of food, toilet paper, cleaning and sanitizing supplies, restricted travel, and even closing worship in churches and our temples.
With all of this time on my hands, there was no excuse not to do "something" worthwhile. I decided to learn about family history research topics via webinars and blogs. Of course I had to take copious notes, print off syllabuses and subsequently discovered things I hadn't realized even existed.
Statistics from my blog and FamilySearch lifted my spirits.
This blog, that I was pretty sure, no one viewed, certainly not even the 11 people who have "followed " me had begun generating viewers or pageviews over the years. 32 pageviews just this last month, many from Instagram. And an all time history since 2010 of 14,609 pageviews. I was shocked.
I also learned that FamilySearch has tracked my statistics since 2012.
They track the Sources that I've attached. The range is from just 1 in 2012 to a peak of 5,914 in 2017. Total to date: 18,778
Next they track Memories, such as photos, mp3 recordings, documents and so on. Mine range from 0 in 2012-13, 73 in 2014, 12 in 2015 peaking in 2016 with 261. Total to date: 767
Finally they track Persons Created and my stats are from 115 in 2010 steadily increasing to 1,026 in 2018. Total to date: 3,679.
GRAND TOTAL OF: 23,252
Now I am following a schedule each day that includes prayer, scripture study and writing in my journal. Will I have the diligence to blog again? I've drafted one modified short "teen" version about Patriarchal Blessings, since that topic has generated the most pageviews. Follow me to see if my wisdom and 30 years experience of studying my own PB will contain a few gems for young people who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2020.
