Writing VS Typing
As I began writing in my journal this morning, I began reflecting on how much I've enjoyed writing with a black ink pen. Now that I am blogging, I am not quite so comfortable with typing. So here is how my train of thought went.
When I first began writing on a consistent basis it was on the island of Kwajalein where we lived in the 1990's after I read the book "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. She initiated me into "morning pages" where you are supposed to write three pages longhand right when you get up, not censoring, just writing whatever comes into your head. Amazing things came out. Some good and some bad. After the 12 weeks of this type of writing and completing the "program" I used this time to write in my journal since I'd began a "habit." I had discovered that early morning prayer, reflection and writing in my journal was spiritually very satisfying. The writing often brought revelation under this circumstances. I am grateful for the habit that developed back at that time.
Typing my blog is similar, but it isn't yet so satisfying as the written word, or rather writing the words with a pen.
Moroni Had a Similar Issue
I can imagine the prophets who lived during the Book of Mormon times having similar issues because they had to write on plates of metal. Moroni says during his abridgement of the records or plates in Ether 12:23-29.
SCRIPTURE: "And I said unto him: Lord, the Gentiles will mock these things, because of our weakness in writing; for Lord thou hast made us mighty in word by faith, but thou hast not made us mighty in writing; for thou hast made all this people that they could speak much, because of the Holy Ghost which thou hast given them;"
"And thou hast made us that we could write but little, because of the awkwardness of our hands. Behold, thou hast not made us mighty unto writing like unto the brother of Jared, for thou madest him that the things he wrote were mighty even as thou art, unto the overpowering of man to read them;"
"Thou hast also made our words powerful and great, even that we cannot write them; wherefore, when we write we behold our weakness, and stumble because of the placing of our words (on metal plates); and I fear lest the Gentiles shall mock our words."
"And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn; and my grace is sufficient for the meek, that they shall take no advantage of your weakness."
"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."
This is what I am hoping the Lord will do for me while writing Malachi 3:16. and I will say as did Moroni:
"And I Moroni having heard these words, was comforted.
